AGREES TO SETTLE A LARGE NUMBER OF INVOKANA® LAWSUITS

(OCTOBER 2016)

The Risks

Many of those who were prescribed Invokana® or other SGLT2 inhibitor for the treatment of their Type 2 diabetes have suffered severe adverse side effects as a result of taking the drug. Because Invokana® functions through the kidneys, patients who take the drug may experience significant dehydration, which can lead to dangerous consequences especially in those with diabetes.

This dehydration can compromise blood flow to the arms, legs, and feet. For many patients suffering from diabetes, limited blood flow could lead to amputations. In 2016, the FDA responded to these adverse effects by issuing a warning regarding the effects of the drug through research that was conducted.
