Details on the manufacturers involved in pervasive toxic contamination investigation
According to CNN: "Today's report reveals that companies not only under-report the high levels of toxic content in their baby food, but also knowingly keep toxic products on the market," said Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois, chair of the House Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, which conducted the investigation.
A few of the companies subject to the recall include:
- Walmart
- Sprout Foods
- Campbell Soup Co., which makes Plum Organics baby food
- Gerber
- Beech-Nut
- Earth’s Best Organics maker Hain Celestial
- Happy Family Organics maker Nurture Inc.
The report found some instances where manufacturers never tested the final products, even though levels of toxic metals might be higher in the finished products–it also found instances where manufacturers broke internal standards by selling foods that exceeded them.
